TITLE: MAXIMISING SHELF-LIFE FOR FOOD PRODUCTS BY DR SYAZANA (UTB CRAFT)
Course duration: 0.5 day
Setting shelf-life and selecting correct date marks for food products are important to ensure food safety of products to consumers. Incorrect settings of shelf-life could negatively affect food businesses in terms of cost and profit margins.
This talk will introduce participants to the concept of shelf-life with respect to“best before” and “use by” date and their legislative requirements. Product parameters including formulation, processing/packing method, packaging and storage conditions are strategies that could be adopted by prodcuers to maximise their product’s shelf life.
Factors to consider when setting shelf-life will be highlighted including various tests used to measure shelf-life a product’s shelf life. Case studies will also be used to enhance understanding of participants.

Correctly use the “Use By” and “Best Before” dates in food products
Set a shelf-life for products
Understand how shelf-life is tested and measured
